The purpose of this project was to introduce high school students from city to the farming community and give them the chance to spend a day on a farm while attending to various seasonal activities that make up a farmer's daily life. This gave the students first hand experience with the world of organic farming while exposing them to the current shortage in the labor force of the farming industry. We enjoyed showing these ''novice farmers'' how to: plant evergreens, protect maple trees from rodents, clean a cattle yard, plant garlic bulbs and prepare firewood for the maple sap evaporator.
The students left with a new understanding of the world of organic farming that respects the Earth. They also left with the taste of a delicious organic meal !
N.B. This project was a joint collaboration with Marymount Academy of Montreal, thanks to Mr. James Dufault.
